Bay Hundred Ducks Unlimited Ladies Fishing Tournament

Posted on 18 May 2008

What a great weekend of fishing! Anglerlive.com sponsored the Bay Hundred Ducks Unlimited Ladies Rockfish Tournament in Tilghman Island,Maryland this past weekend. We are glad we got involved and look forward to working with these great anglers again. There were times throughout the weekend that it seemed the weather might shut the ladies tournament down. The Captains did not seem worried about the NOAA reports as they gathered on Friday night to review the rules at the Captains meeting. As usual, in the end the Captains knew best.

If you are looking for great fishing on the Chesapeake Bay or just a weekend getaway Tilghman Island is a good place to go. We stayed at the Knapps Narrow Inn and Marina. When going to Tilghman Island or St. Michael's we highly recommend this Inn, as well as Lowe's Wharf Marina. Book early during wedding season because a lot of places on the Island have been booked for months. This is a nice place to stay with dining nearby and it is fisherman friendly. The view is from our room. Before we jump forward with the fishing I should also recommend Harrison's as an outstanding place to eat.

The Captains and Mates involved donated their time and their boats to make this tournament happen. I spoke to every Captain involved and I can strongly endorse each of them as hardcore true fisherman. If you do not know your way around the middle bay, get with one of these guys. They were at the docks ready to get the women out on the water at 5AM. For those of you that have not been to a ladies fishing event I can report first hand that the polite chatter ended in most cases at 5:01AM and the competitive spirits came out. The judges stood ready at the docks throughout the morning thinking that looming bad weather could bring the boats racing back in at any time. None of the boats came back very early, in fact the winners brought there fish in with only ten minutes left. The 1:30PM cutoff time was the end of fishing but the beginning of a good time.

The ladies stood by as their catches were weighed and measured.

The rain moved onshore and the good times moved inside.

The winners received trophies and fishing gear and accessories were given out.

At the end of the day new friends were made and old friends caught up, and some women anglers showed they can fish at the tournament level. This was a great tournament and a fun time. Thanks to Ed, Susan, T-Bone, Larry and everyone else who made us feel welcome.
